Shooting Checklist

Use the Shooting Checklist as a reminder of what to bring to every practice and every competitive shoot. I can’t stress enough the importance of using a list. Because things can get hectic at home while everyone tries to get organized for a road trip, I have seen shooters arrive at practices and competitions without their glasses, their hearing protection, or their ammo. Forgetting an item may not be dire for a practice session, but if you leave your shooting bag at home for a competition, you will likely get rattled by the mistake. This can hinder your performance in the day’s events.

Some shooters like to clean their gun(s) as soon as they are finished with their events. You might want to wait until you get home—that’s your choice. However, in case of wet conditions, you should at least bring and use a woolly Outers™ shotgun bore cleaning rod with oil on it. Also, have an oily rag on hand to wipe down the outside of your shotgun. Then, when you get home, take the gun apart and thoroughly clean and re-lube it.
